Malpica to Muxia

September 6-16

Hold on tight, people, because we’re about to take you on a wild ride! The Camino dos Faros, or the Lighthouse Way, is the hike you never knew you needed in your life! Ready to feast your eyes on everything that Galicia’s wild coastline has to offer? Our route will be approximately 150kms long, and is packed with jaw-dropping views of quaint fishing villages, blinding white beaches, turquoise blue water, and ancient Celtic ruins. You’ll wander through lush forests, vast fields of wild flowers and coves so secluded they will make you feel like you’re on some sort of epic pirate treasure hunt. Don’t worry about crowded trails – this hidden gem has got you covered with its relative unknown factor, it really is undiscovered country.

Before you dive headfirst into this, let’s set the record straight – this is no walk in the park (unless that park is Jurassic Park!). I want to make sure you’re up for the challenge and ready to take on the wild side of Galicia. I’m here to tell you this ain’t no regular Camino. We will be carrying everything we need with us while tackling rugged terrains, rocky cliffs, and undulating hills. Some days your calves and quads will be whining like tired toddlers. Before lunchtime. It’s like a real-life obstacle course where Mother Nature is throwing you challenges and the weather can be as unpredictable as a cat’s mood. Sunny and warm to rainy and windy in the blink of an eye. So pack your raincoat and your sunscreen – you’ll need them both!

This hike is for adventurers who are willing to push their limits and embrace the wild side. You’ll need stamina and a willingness to wee in the wild, there are no taxis to rescue us here. But fear not – the stunning landscapes and the sheer thrill of wandering through the untamed beauty of Galicia make it all worthwhile. And when we get to the end of the day, we will have some pretty stellar accommodations to revive our tired muscles and get us ready to take on the next stage.

I promise this will be an unforgettable journey filled with stunning vistas, tranquil moments, and a genuine connection to the coastal wonders of Wild Galicia. Get your gear on and lets go!

Where are we going?

Sometimes you just need someone to show you the way.
  • Day 1 . Malpica . These two days are get organized days. If you have spent some time traveling or are just plain jet lagged, this gives you a couple of days to get yourself sorted, do your laundry.
  • Day 2 . Malpica . This is a great little beach town and the water is usually warm. You might take a surf lesson but don’t forget to pick up your supplies for tomorrow.
  • Day 3 . Malpica to Barizo. 13.5kms . We have an easy walk today and the scenery is going to blow your mind. We will be stopping for lunch at a beautiful little beach and then continuing on to our accommodation for the night.
  • Day 4 . Barizo to Corme . 24.2kms . This is our longest and hardest day. We have to carry all our food and water as there is nowhere to stop to resupply. Today we will visit beaches with sand so white you will need your sunglasses and vistas that will take your breath away. We will also visit the first two lighthouses on our route and then we stop in the quirky village of Corme for the night.
  • Day 5 . Corme to As Grelas . 17.5kms . Pine forests and giant sand dunes are part of the landscape today then we walk the last 4kms on a beautiful (and flat) Paseo. Check out the berberecho collectors on the tidal flats. We will also be able to stop for lunch, coffee and supplies for the next couple of days.
  • Day 6 . As Grelas . Rest Day . We are having a rest day here. We deserve it! Our accommodations are luxurious and the beds are super comfortable. There is an option here to do a short easy hike up to see the remains of a Celtic hillfort and the Taj Mahal of Dolmens.
  • Day 7 . As Grelas to Laxe Beach . 9.5kms . The Costa del Morte doesn’t need any more trophies so it’s a short easy hike today as we end at Laxe Beach. You may decide to rent a paddle board or kayak here for the afternoon if chilling on the beach is not your thing.
  • Day 8 . Laxe to Arou . 18kms . We get to take our shoes off and walk across a kilometer of sand! We also visit a glass beach and if our timing is right, see the the foam furnace. The Pizza place in Arou is a cool funky place to have dinner.
  • Day 9 . Arou to Camarinas . 24kms Big day! Today everything is big. Big empty beaches, big sand dunes and big rocks! It’s all so stunning you will never forget it. We will also visit the English cemetery and our third major lighthouse on the hike.
  • Day 10 . Camarinas to Praia do Lago . 21.4kms . Easy stage and lots of beaches. We can take it easy today.
  • Day 11 . Praia do Lago to Muxia . 21kms . This is it! Our last day. We will have picked up supplies to have lunch on the beach and it is a relatively easy walk. We join up with the Camino de Santiago and walk all the way into the Virxe do Barca Church and our final lighthouse of the hike. We have a special treat for tonight.
